Daniel Guerrero is a five-time award-winning 2020 journalism graduate from San Diego State University. He worked as Mundo Azteca editor and as a staff writer for The Daily Aztec. He covered both sports and SDSU campus news in both English and Spanish for The Daily Aztec. Daniel is a former NBC 7 sports intern and a former San Diego Convention Center communications intern.
While at SDSU, Daniel also was an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. He served as the student chapter’s public relations officer in spring 2020 and as chapter president in fall 2020.

Daniel interned for the San Diego Convention Center during summer 2019 where he assisted the communications team on projects relating to the convention center’s 30th anniversary and photographing Comic-Con International. He then interned for NBC 7 during fall 2019 where he worked closely with producers and sports anchors in producing Football Night in San Diego and sports segments for evening newscasts.
Daniel’s career goal is to become a baseball reporter. He is originally from Anaheim, Calif. where he was born and raised. Before transferring to SDSU in fall 2018 as a junior, Daniel earned his associate’s degree in journalism at Fullerton College, where he also wrote for The Hornet and served as the sports editor for the student publication.
His awards include a second-place college sports story award from the San Diego Press Club for “Junior Pitcher Adrian Mardueño succeeds amid mother’s illness,” a fifth-place news award from the California Newspaper Publishers Association for “Port of entry closure poses threats to SDSU’s transborder commuters” and three Journalism Association of Community Colleges awards. In July 2020, Daniel was named as a 2020 scholarship from the NAHJ San Diego-Tijuana chapter.
Some of Daniel’s favorite memories from writing for The Daily Aztec include covering the SDSU baseball beat from 2019-20 and traveling to Albuquerque, New Mexico to cover the 2019 New Mexico Bowl game between SDSU and Central Michigan. When he is not in the press box covering a game, you might be able to find Daniel at Disneyland eating Mickey-shaped beignets and enjoying a Mint Julep.
